About The Area

Settled in 1846 by Dr Edward Hobson, Traralgon (meaning river of little fish) has grown to become the centre of the Latrobe Valley. Situated between ski fields and the fabulous 90 mile beach, the Valley offers a diversity of landscape like nowhere else.

A comfortable two hour drive east of Melbourne, Traralgon has been built upon servicing the three major industries of the region; timber production, electricity production and agriculture.

The area is host to the States power industry with one of the world's largest deposits of brown coal.

Natural beauty in the area includes the Grand Ridge Road through the Strzlecki Ranges and Tarra-Bulga National Park, Historic Walhalla Township and popular coastal holiday towns.
